Reducing setup times is a key factor in making your production more flexible. The crux lies in a dramatic reduction of the internal setup time (the time from the last correct product of the current series to the first correct product of the new series). With this workshop you will get to know the methodical approach in practice right up to the approach to your machine and how to act during the organizational process. The workshop includes a theoretical introduction (one day) and a practical implementation section followed by a stabilization phase.
With SMED (“Single Minute Exchange of Die” = machine setup within an adjustable minute range) you have a method at your fingertips with which you can first reduce your setup time in one large step (approx. 40 to 60% time reduction in one go) and then further during the continuous improvement process. These successes pave the way for you to reduce batch sizes and achieve shorter lead times. In this context, it makes sense to better synchronize prefabrication and planning and control optimization with current customer requirements in order to use the released potential in a customer-oriented manner.
SMED can be a successful starting point for the introduction to the Lean Philosophy. Used specifically within the framework of Lean Programs, SMED can unlock great potential. It is important to establish the method sustainably. This requires a certain organization, which we will teach you with our sustainability workshops, following method training and implementation. You will benefit even more from SMED in connection with the “Control and Planning” optimization program and the synchronization of prefabrication.
